Johnson & Johnson vaccine blot clot risk more rare than general population

Maybe I’m just misunderstanding things but I don’t think so. The story is that 6 people out of 6.8 million who received the J&J vaccine had a rare type of blood clot. That is .88 per million.

In a joint statement Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Food and Drug Administration said they are reviewing six U.S. cases of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) that occurred among the 6.8 million who have received J&J’s vaccine.

While in the general population, without the vaccine 5 people per million experience this blood clot.

This particular brain blood clot is extremely rare in the general population—five individuals per million per year, with higher rates among those under the age of 18—and deadly.

It’s 5.6 times more likely to get this blood clot just by existing than those that received the vaccine. Why in the world would they stop the rollout?

Not that I’m getting in line to take any of these experimental vaccines but the J&J and AstraZeneca are using already proven vaccine technologies while the Pfizer and Moderna are using unproven technologies. What is at play here?
