Non-Social in a Socially Networked World

Trump is proving himself to be quite the Democrat Socialist

Why do the Democrats hate Trump so much when he is the best Democrat Socialist to ever get elected to the Presidency? They should be loving this guy. He’s doing everything they have been wanting to do for decades, except for that pesky border thing.

Trump stood in the Oval Office on Monday and told reporters that Exxon and Chevron “ought to give some of that back to the public.” Both companies posted blockbuster quarterly profits after the Iran war disrupted global oil markets. Exxon’s profits more than doubled year over year to $14.5 billion. Chevron posted its highest quarterly earnings on record at $12.1 billion. Trump demanded they cut retail prices, and he made clear he considers their profit margins a problem for him to solve. Note: I’m an investor in both Exxon and Chevron.

President Trump said Chevron and ExxonMobil are “making too much money” and should return some of their profits back to the public.

“When you look at one company where they made 12 times what they made the year before, they ought to give some of that back to the public,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday. “And they better cut the retail price, the consumer price.”

Trump described himself as a “big free enterprise guy,” but said he is nonetheless frustrated by the oil industry’s profits, which come as fuel prices increase as a result of the war in Iran. “You’re surprised I’m saying it. I’ll say it loud and clear. I’m not happy about it,” he said of the industry’s profits.

The president predicted that prices would drop when the war with Iran ends.

Perhaps Trump should look in the mirror when he’s complaining about oil prices. After all, the war he ordered is driving those prices higher. Oil prices spike each time he escalates and fall each time he signals a pause, which means the fastest way to bring gas prices down resides in the decisions made inside the golden dome of his head.

Trump is using the same language Joe Biden used in 2022, when Biden accused oil companies of war profiteering and pushed Congress to penalize them for high profits during the Ukraine war. Trump called himself a “big free enterprise guy” in the same breath he demanded oil companies justify their profits to the government. I guess he’s only for free enterprise if the enterprises belong to him.

This crap has soiled Trump’s second term. Trump has taken a sharp socialist left turn by making the U.S. government a shareholder, a lender, and a distributor of checks, all funded by taxpayers. He did this by forcing private businesses to give up equity stakes to the U.S. government, creating a taxpayer-funded savings account for every newborn, and floating a sovereign investment fund modeled on Norway and Saudi Arabia.

Since January 2025, the federal government has bought ownership positions in roughly 30 private companies, spending close to $27 billion. The government now holds a 9.9% stake in Intel, along with pieces of MP Materials, Lithium Americas, Trilogy Metals, and a growing list of semiconductor and critical minerals firms. Trump’s administration describes its equity stakes as a permanent feature of industrial policy going forward, with no exit plan attached. Nothing screams socialism like seizing the means of production.

Every child born in America between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028 gets a $1,000 deposit from the U.S. Treasury (aka taxpayers) into a government-created investment account. The program, saddled with the cringe-inducing name Trump Accounts, launched July 4, 2026, and Treasury has sent money to millions of families since. This is a universal government cash benefit tied to childbirth, financed by the public and distributed by federal mandate. Socialism.

Trump signed an executive order in February 2025 directing Treasury and Commerce to draft a plan for a government-run investment fund, modeled on funds in Norway and Saudi Arabia. The formal plan stalled by mid-2025 over legal and financial obstacles. Separately, an analyst at the Cato Institute said the growing pile of equity stakes in Intel, MP Materials, and dozens of other companies amounts to a sovereign wealth fund being built one deal at a time, without ever needing Congress to approve the fund itself. Socialist.

What makes a socialist? Trump publicly pressures private companies over how much money they are allowed to make. The government owns equity stakes in 30 companies and counting. A federal cash program deposits taxpayer money into every newborn’s investment account. A paused sovereign wealth fund plan still sits inside the administration, waiting for the right moment. Let’s not forget the Democrat Party wet dream of huge tariffs on foreign goods in a ham-handed attempt to protect American jobs.

Republicans in Congress just let all this happen with nary a peep. This proves that the Republican Party is not and most likely never has been conservative. This is the same party that screamed for years about socialism, government control, and Washington picking winners and losers. They sit there and lick the scrotum of their own party’s president as he does all those things. It’s hard to protest loudly when your mouth is full.

Trump ran against a Democratic Party he accused of wanting government control over the economy. 18 months into his second term, he has done exactly what he accused them of wanting to do. Conservative media would call a Democratic president a socialist for doing any of these things. Trump has done all 4. Socialist.
