There’s always someone new who comes along to refresh an old genre. This seems to happen to the blues every so often. I listen to many different genres, and blues is one of them. I don’t listen to a lot of blues artists, and it has been a while since I found another one I enjoy. Enter Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and his distinctive baritone voice. This young man sounds like he came out of some old-time blues record label from the 1960s.
To me, what sets him apart is his voice. He plays blues guitar, sure enough, but I don’t think he’s exactly developed his own sound just yet. Maybe it’s just me. There’s nothing wrong with his guitar playing, but I don’t find it as recognizable as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, or Albert King. It’s his voice that sets him apart, and his singing ability is getting better with every album.
Hard Road is his third studio album. My favorite tracks are “Bad Like Me,” “Nothin’ But Your Love,” “Clearly,” and “Hard to Love.” Check out the playlist of his album below.
