LA’s Karen Bass and Chicago’s Brandon Johnson might possibly be the dumbest mayors in the entire country. But strap in, folks, because it looks like New York might outdo them both when it comes to peak stupid. Enter Zohran Mamdani. He’s 33 years old and is a firm believer in socialism. After reading some articles about him and the upset win he secured in the New York City Democratic Primary, it seems to me he’s a hardcore communist. He wants to take old Soviet policies and apply them to the City of New York.
Mamdani believes in freezing rent, free transportation, free childcare, government-owned grocery stores, and raising the minimum wage to $30 per hour.
Voters flocked to Mamdani after he called for freezing rent costs, free city bus rides, public childcare for young children, city-owned grocery stores and raising the minimum wage to $30 an hour by 2030. The primary’s top vote-getter has suggested he would pay for his costly plans by raising the city’s corporate tax rate and imposing higher taxes on those making more than $1 million.

His plan is to fund this by increasing the corporate tax rate and increasing income taxes on people making more than $1 million. $1 million in NYC, because of the cost of living, especially in Manhattan, is most likely firmly in the middle class. And corporations don’t pay taxes. It’s make-believe. All expenses, including taxes, get passed on to whoever consumes the product or service of the corporations. In the end… that means you (if you live in NYC).
Now, he’s only won the primary. But his Republican opponent will be multi-election loser Curtis Sliwa (of Guardian Angels fame), and New Yorkers don’t elect conservatives. Their last Republican mayor was Michael Bloomberg, over a decade ago, and he was a Democrat by policy even though he ran as a Republican. Rudy Giuliani was as close as they’ve gotten in 25 years to a conservative mayor.
This completes the trifecta of stupid in our great nation’s three largest cities. What the fuck is going on?
