Am I the Last Pet Owner on Earth?

Sometimes I think I’m the only one left in the world that doesn’t treat his dogs like humans.

  • I’m a pet owner not a pet parent.
  • I don’t call them my babies.
  • I don’t buy them Christmas or birthday gifts.
  • They’re my pets not my family.

If that makes me a cold hearted bastard I’m fine with that.

The reason this came to mind is I came across a couple surveys that asked if I would pay for subscription veterinary services and if I buy my pets gifts for Christmas or have any holiday traditions with my pets. Dogs don’t know jack about holidays. They don’t know about their birthdays. What is the point? They don’t care.

Do I do goofy things like other pet owners? Yes. For instance, I have Instagram accounts for them. But they’re not “for” them. They are for me. Those accounts are online photo albums for me to enjoy. In case you’d like to take a look here are their accounts for your enjoyment.

Do I give them treats? Sure. Do I engage with them in things they seem to enjoy? Sure. Do I take silly pictures of them for my own enjoyment? Sure. One thing I don’t do is anthropomorphize them.

Sorry… not sorry.
